If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, you’ll know that one of the biggest myths I try to dispel is that you need shed loads of cash to have a beautiful home. Even if you have a limited budget (and isn’t that most of us?), with a little creativity and letting go of the fear of a bit of DIY, you can create a gorgeous home.
So when Swiftcover contacted me about joining with them in their campaign called #SwiftHomeHacks to help those who are just starting out on the property ladder get stuck into some great DIYs that really make a house a home, I really just couldn’t resist.
Here’s what Jyoti Bird, Marketing & Insight Director at Swiftcover had to say:
βWe understand the struggle to furnishΒ your home on budget, so weβve teamed up with three award winning interior design bloggers to help youΒ furnish your home creatively and stylishly on a budget, as part of its #SwiftHomeHacks campaign. From simple cost effective dressing ideas, to creative making projects, weβve got step-by-step videos toΒ guide you through lots of different ideas.β
In my first video, I’m sharing how I combat the long winters here in Manchester that wreak havoc on my houseplants by supplementing my little urban jungle with really inexpensive faux plants. The best bit is how easy it is to make them look a whole lot better than those little plastic pots they come in.
Now that you’ve seen how it’s done, are you ready for a giveaway?

You’re fabulous in front of the camera! I love this idea, I’m going to have a look at mixing up my real plants with a couple of faux ones too!
(Spotted your ZZ! I see now what you meant about how large it is, lol!)
Love this Kimberly! Faux flowers are perfect for me as I always kill living ones (just by looking at them it seems!) and these look beautiful xx
Wow you are so fab on this I cant wait for the next one. This is a really great tip and really adds a lovely polished and luxurious look. I’m literally picking up my keys to go out and find some faux plants right now!!
It’s no secret that I suck at caring for plants. I have to buy new ones every Summer (specially the small ones) because the die too quickly as soon as the cold weather hits us (NYC area). =/
I’m always tempted to buy plastic plants, and everyone is always telling me how they just look too fake. This post + vid was so helpful! :)
Gosh you freakin rock the camera! Love the plants idea too but seeing you on camera clearly made my day. So super impressed.
After watching your, I was really dreading my own! but your video is amazing! You should be doing more video’s! Shall we do one toghether? :)
