We all love blush pink right? Well, that is until the media got a hold of it and started calling it Millenial Pink which made me think I wasn’t allowed to like it anymore given I’m not a ‘millennial’. (For those wondering, I’m apparently part of Generation X but who cares about labels really, amiright?) Anyway, it’s a gorgeous colour and goes with so many things and yes, I still think it’s beautiful but I’m starting to tire of it. (sigh)
And this is the thing with trending colours. They start to saturate (colour saturation, geddit) everything and after a while, I go off it. It’s like thinking that eating an entire pack of Oreos is going to be a great idea until you do and then you feel incredibly sick. Hypothetically speaking, I’m eating too many Oreos right now with the whole blush pink thing and while I still think it’s a pretty great colour, I’m feeling like I might need a lie-down now.

So I’m thinking about the NEXT colour that’s going to be big and I’m beginning to see myself drawn to a colour that’s similar but not exactly the same. Peach. Yes, I can just feel my fellow Generation X-ers recoiling in horror, with visions of the 80s trend. I remember planning a bedroom makeover when I was in my early teens – it was going to be all peach and mint green. I don’t think I ended up doing it for some reason but I remember very distinctly being quite enamoured with the idea.

Now, I’m sure they’ll end up calling it something else – the way pink is now called ‘blush’ to somehow make it more palatable to those who still consider colours to be gendered, as though calling it something other than pink will make straight guys get on the train. But whatever, you can call it salmon or pale coral or setting plasterΒ if you’re posh. It’s a pale colour, with a more orangey undertone but a similar saturation to blush pink. Basically just peach, then.
One of the reasons I’m thinking it’s going to be big is because checking out all the designs that were coming out of Milan this year, there was a huge trend for rusty colours. And this is another thing I think is going to be big – this colour palette of peach mixed with rusts, terracottas and burgundies and all those warm yummy shades that make us feel cosy (just don’t call it orange, god forbid, or people will start thinking of a certain POTUS and there will be RIOTS).

I used this peachy-pinky colour in two of my latest room makeovers – my dining room in the artwork by Gina Julian and in my kitchen, in the wallpaperΒ that I chose from 17 Patterns for the shelving units. And my goodness, how I love it.
Do you reckon peach might be the new blush? Or do you think another colour will take the lead? I’m kind of thinking lavender might be hot on its heels as well. What’s your prediction? Let me know in the comments!
ironically, emmy and i just ordered a peach daybed cushion from UO for the lounge area i am making the kids. while she and i are away this weekend i have asked the boys to make a simple daybed for us…. i might come home to a piece of plywood on the floor. ;) we’ll see!
Oh I saw the peach daybeds at UO and they are GORGEOUS. Honestly, I’m seeing it everywhere now! I’m ready for the peach invasion! ;) xxx
Hi Kimberly
I’m the same as you feel blush is being overly used so I’m loving the idea of peach such a cosy tone that is definitely 80’s mixed with a bit of granny chic! I’m a generation X & as a teenager I had a peach tube skirt and white and peach stripy top (showing my age now!). Love your colour trend thoughts. Thanks for sharing. X
It was SUCH a big colour in the 80’s wasn’t it? Yep, I remember too! Your peach tube skirt actually sounds rather cute! Ha! xx
I can remember when we first got our house, and my friend bought theirs at the same time and we couldn’t decide who was going to use pink and who was going to use peach so they wouldn’t look the same, I got the pink lol. Its amazing how the colours keep coming around.
I hope that Lavender dose come in it’s a colour that I do like very much, so I hope you are right there Kimberly xxx.
Oh that is so funny! And yep, I wouldn’t have believed 10 years ago that I’d like peach again (nevermind pink! I was never a pink girl) but oh how times change! lol I’m really like lavender lately too – I purposely went for a grey in my dining room that has a bit of lavender to it ;) xx
I had a lavender phase until the late 70’s then I was all about peach for a long time. My interest shifted to green and for the past few years I have been loving gray. I try not to jump on the trend wagon but I do love watching the transitions in nesting! Love how your gold & copper pop off the wallpaper. Blush and peach play so well with so many colors and metallic finishes, I can definitely see it happening!
Ahhh see how these colours and trends are so cyclical!? I’m loving greens and of course greys as well. I’d go so far to say that grey is the colour – not just of the year but of the DECADE. And yes, warm metallics look so pretty with peach, I am just seeing it everywhere now, really think it’s gonna be big! xxx
I can’t believe it. Many of us are thinking alike. We are downsizing and have purchased a slightly smaller home all on one level with a much smaller yard. The master bedroom is quite large, however, and I have picked a paint called “Almost Coral” by Sherwin Williams. It’s very very pale. You know it’s not cream but until you place it on white, you don’t see the palest of peachy shade. I am excited and think it will be a great neutral. It’s already hotter than you know what here in the upstate of South Carolina. Praying for rain. May you share?
Oh how funny and yes, agree it would make such a pretty neutral (much the same as how blush is practically a neutral these days)! And YES please take all the rain you want – we’ve had nothing but the stuff for the last few days ;) xx
I actually really like how you have introduced peach here. Im literally just about to add some colour to my white bedroom, think it might be peach now…… Thanks for the inspiration x
Oooh well happy to give you a little inspiration then! I think it’d be a beautiful colour addition to a white bedroom! Super fresh and pretty :) xx
My parents had a peach living room in the 80s, my bedroom when I was a teenager had peach sponge effect wallpaper! The rusts and terracottas are straight out of the early 90s. Funny how things come back. I’ve noticed that 90s fashion has made a bit of a comeback recently, so maybe interiors will follow. In that time my parents had a pink carpet and sofas, a dado rail with jade green and pink flowery patterned wallpaper above the dado and a coordinating stripe wallpaper below. I seem to remember lilac being a big colour around that time too. Will be exciting to see where things go!
Just painted my new apartment cream puff pink by BM. It’s my place and my place alone so I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate.
I’m in love! :)
Hi! love everything about this! Can you share where you got the cup hooks and holder?
Sure, they are from Rowen & Wren https://www.rowenandwren.co.uk/products/hardware/bitra-hook-rail.html
Hope that helps! :) xx
Yes! Yes, I’m exactly the same as you, coral/peach/salmon/apricot whatever it ends up being called when it takes over, it’s such a lovely colour. I’ve been trying to source bits for a while, and really struggling as it’s not quite on the high street radar yet but it’s such a fabulous tone. And I can now like it guilt free since I recently painted over my mothers peach 80’s walls with grey! Did you see the Broste styling this year? Blush, peach and terracotta all combined, it was so, so pretty xx
