Itβs no secret that I love velvet furniture. I have not one but two velvet sofas in my own home β my olive green velvet chesterfield sofa as well as a bold yellow velvet love seat. If I had room for more, Iβd certainly consider another one. One of the reasons Iβve always loved velvet is that it feels and looks luxurious.
Thereβs something about the soft neat pile and the way it ages so beautifully β the pile slowly presses leaving a soft sheen behind as a ghost of where others have been β takes me back to a more glamorous age. Something about it makes me want to don a long sparkly dress with a thigh-high split, to toss back my hair, long stemmed cocktail in one hand, long stemmed cigarette, Γ la Holly Golightly, in the other. (Not that Iβm advocating smoking, this is fantasy, of course.)
Fantasy aside, I also find that with two cats, itβs practical. Iβve spoken of this before on the blog, having had 3 different cats over the years and never have they scratched any of my velvet. Velvet is not a looped fabric so they canβt get their claws into it to shed the outer layers (this is what they are doing when they are destroying your nice woven fabric sofa). So they simply donβt bother. With a dog, itβs not quite as practical, Iβll admit. But any spot cleaning so far has been very successful and my sofa continues to look perfectly smart, even though itβs now over 6 years old.

I have a chesterfield sofa in stain resistant velvet which has weathered family life very well. I opted for a neutral shade so I wasnβt tied to a colour scheme but good grief, the beauties youβve chosen are giving me pause. Iβm seriously smitten with the blush one too.

Hi Anne. I got my sofa from http://www.love-your-home.co.uk. We got a sample first and it passed all manner of stain testing (Iβll spare you the gory details). Over two years on and weβre still happy.
Vellllveettt. I donβt need any convincing, even before we bought our house, Iβd dreamt up my dream living room β itβll have a blue velvet sofa (VERY similar colour, if not the same as the one in your post) and a grey one. Whatever trends may come and go, Iβm not changing my mind! Just need to wait a few years until we can renovate our home.

Yes yes yes!!! Velvet all the way, we have a gorgeous black velvet sofa we bought a few years ago and itβs the most comfy, squishy, cocooning, relaxing sofa Iβve ever sat on! It gets better with age despite 2 kids, itβs like a big hug in sofa form!

i have to say i am not a fan of velvet i just get images of the kids sticky hands clumping up the fibres ahha, but my Mrs wont stop banging on about crushed velvet this a crushed velvet that. So anyway i am here taking a peek to see if i can find something i like too :)

Here is my dilemma- I have inherited a navy blue velvet chesterfield which I love, but I need another sofa to go with it, and I am just not sure what style would look right with itβ¦ other colours are very neutral, but Iβve mixed a lot of styles and patterns alreadyβ¦ hard to describe, but what do you think?
Iβve just sent my two beautiful sofas away to be reupholstered in β¦Velvet :) my upholsterer has tried everything to change my desicion saying that you will see marks and shades once it has been sat on but I wonβt give in!
