I think most people secretly welcome the turn of the season when cooler temperatures beckon us indoors to the warmth of a cup of cocoa…

I love the sunshine and warmth of summertime but there’s something so lovely about pulling out coats and scarves and pulling on knee high boots.

It’s time to slow down and indulge in a spot of baking or tackling that sewing or knitting project or making a gorgeously fragrant stew that sits for hours til the meat falls off the bone.

Autumn to me is the crackle of leaves under a heavy boot as the trees shed their summer clobber and the whirring of the wind in the remaining golden leaves becomes our music. When the autumn sunshine loses its heat and long walks in the woods round off a perfect day off.
While the autumn leaves here in the UK are pretty, I grew up in rural Pennsylvania and I miss the vibrant reds, yellows, pinks and oranges of the changing of the seasons there.

I still revel in Autumn.
The change of season has brought a change in my personal life as well. I’ve decided to take voluntary redundancy from my job and with that, a world of possibilities has opened up to me. What I will be doing secularly still remains hanging in the air like a leaf buoyed up by the winds but where it will land remains unknown. I’m excited about the change in my life and excited for what the future will hold.

What do you love about Autumn?
kicking through autumn leaves on a sunny days walk in the park, watching my boston ivy turn a glorious red
Sounds gorgeous! x
Congrats, I think? In American terms, what is a "voluntary redundancy"? Does that mean that you chose to leave, or that they were laying off people and you volunteered?

My favorite season is spring, but autumn is my second choice. I too like the changing leaves, especially that I am surrounded by them on our wooded lot. I also like starting to layer clothes, although I will
A little of both in answer to your question. They made changes in my dept which meant that 2 jobs were turning into 1 so both me and my colleague were at risk of being laid off. I decided to volunteer for the redundancy and leave. It generally comes with a nice little payoff to cushion the blow so I've got a few months really to figure out what I want to do. xxx
So exciting good luck.
ps. that pic of where you grew up is like the Dirty Dancing holiday place!
Thank you! Hahaha I love the Dirty Dancing comment! I suppose it was a bit like that but sadly, no Patrick Swayze ;) xxx
I love it ALL. Congratulations on the life change, keep us updated!
What a lovely description of Autumn – I can just say 'me too' to everything. And don't forget fireworks! One of the best consolations for evenings when it gets dark before you even leave work.

Congratulations on the new direction, I'm sure the future will bring all kinds of wonderful and exciting things for you! Or tubas for you, which is what my spell checker thinks I
A great post – and big news! Congrats to you on what I know will be a step in an amazing direction. You will rock it girlfriend!
Good for you! It takes courage to change. This is the perfect time of year to edit our lives. One door closes and another opens. Now i'd like to curl up with a good book, a warm throw, and a mug of hot cocoa :)

Leslie
Great post — you definitely captured all that is fabulous about fall!
Isnβt That Charming.
Wow, you grew up in a really beautiful part of the world. For me, autumn (with kids!) is all about scuffling through the leaves, looking for conkers, splashing in puddles, and collecting leaves, berries and twigs to take home and cover in glue in the name of toddler art :-)
