In between the bathroom remodel, various appointments and writing obligations, my week off has actually been rather enjoyable. Busy, but enjoyable. I went out and bought a bunch of canvases recently and am enjoying getting my paint on again.
Since I moved my Martini & Rossi poster to my bedroom, I was left with a large blank spot on my gallery wall. I wanted a framed print there but I was struggling to find the perfect affordable piece so I picked up a 50cm x 70cm frame and some white card stock and decided Iβd have a go at painting something myself.
I decided to do something a little different than my normal technique and although I was a little unsure of it at first, Iβm pretty happy with how it came out.
Iβve called the piece Cracked (for obvious reasons) and I like how itβs really brightened up the wall. The problem of course, is that I then want to change other pieces on the gallery wall (itβs never ending, honestly β I call it the βDecorating Domino Effectβ) because I feel like they donβt really fit any longer.
The Cadburyβs Cocoa poster has GOT to go (itβs starting to annoy me), the Synonyms for Drunk poster (which I actually really love) is also unfortunately βmarkedβ because the cream background and green lettering just donβt go with anything on the wall and itβs starting to jar. The ones in the orange frames used to contain manga wallpaper but I recently swapped it out for some other wallpaper samplesβ¦ unfortunately, the creamy backgrounds just arenβt working for me so I need to change those again. Oh yeah, it just goes ON AND ON.
And yes, I know the little purple one on the bottom is crooked. Thereβs always something crooked on that wall.
Annnnyway, back to the painting. It works for me β for the time being anyway. Itβs also really hard to take pictures of this wall without being reflected in them. Hey ho.
I also did a second painting more like the ones you normally see from me but this one will be for sale! Iβve decided to call it Rockets Red Glare.
Ya see, a lot of people have asked since I started my little venture into painting whether Iβd consider selling my work. The truth is, yes, Iβve been considering it for a while. Itβs something I really enjoy and while I have plenty of my own pieces around the house, I canβt very well fill my house with them. So while Iβm going to be running a DIY art workshop at Home Is in the North (Are you in the area or planning a trip to Manchester? Please come, I would love to see you!), this event will give me the chance to dip my toes into the selling arena and see how it goes.
Iβm planning on doing a number of others in preparation for the show in a few different sizes (Rockets Red Glare is 50cm x 50cm but I have a canvas thatβs 80cm x 100cm that will be the biggest one Iβve ever done) and Iβll share them with you here on the blog. So if you see anything you like, then be sure to book your place at the event! Or come along to the workshop (spaces are limited!) and you can learn to do it yourself.
So what do you think of my addition to the gallery wall? Dipped your paintbrush lately? Do you also go through the Decorating Domino Effect? Ever sell a painting and want to share your wisdom?! Iβm all ears.
Oh good! I'm not the only one! I've stopped declaring my gallery wall "done" because every time I do, I find something awesome and make a major change. Can't wait to see the rearranged wall!
I covet everything about your beautiful gallery wall! I have to live vicariously through other bloggers who pull it off successfully because since the double-sided tape incident where they all fell down⦠in the middle of the night, I have been banned from creating another one. And your paintings? Absolutely gorgeous. Now go and sell them because they will be BOUGHT!
Hi! I love your paintings and was wondering if you've done a post on how you do them for those of us very far away (like, Australia :-) who would like to do similar (as I'm pretty sure purchasing them isn't really an option either!) I tried your search button with the term ' painting' and it said blog post not found so I'm not sure that's working but if you haven't
ooooohhhhh how fun!!!! love the new piece as well and can't wait to see what the future holds as you continue to expand your repertoire of creative innovations and spread more love with your colorful art and gifts. smooches.

michele
I love the Cracked piece! With soft lines and colors, remind me of the canyons in the middle west here in the US. I have been saying that I should start painting again, I even bought the canvases! But still nothing yet. So now my house is filled with my photography instead :)
Keep up the good work!
Hi
Really this is a fabulous article i think it will help those who want to decorate their room, bathroom, and drawing hall. At last it will help someone who is very keen of painting and want to adorn their rooms and bathrooms with paintings.
thanks for sharing
keep it up
Such a domino effect with the gallery wall. Change one thing gotta change lots of others!

How exciting that you are starting to sell your paintings. And that you are the DIY art workshop. Great things are happening for you!
